Orthopaedic and Spinal Referral service

Charlie Sale BVMS, CertSAO, DipECVS, MRCVS
is a European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Charlie has over 14 years of experience in orthopaedic and spinal referrals. He graduated from Glasgow in 1991 and then worked in a small animal practice in Bolton for four years where he developed an interest in small animal orthopaedics. In 1995 he moved to the Willows Veterinary Hospital, part of the Willows Veterinary Group, and set up an internal orthopaedic and spinal referral service. In 1997 he attained the RCVS certificate in small animal orthopaedics and began accepting external referrals. Charlie's services came under the Oakwood umbrella after Oakwood started in 1999. This has been a dedicated referral service for over five years. Charlie became a diplomate of the European College of veterinary Surgeons in 2007. He has published articles on spinal conditions in the dog and is interested in all aspects of orthopaedic and spinal disease.

Prue Neath BSc(Hons), BVetMed, DipACVS, DipECVS, MRCVS. RCVS, American & European Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery (Soft Tissue) graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1993, and completed a surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania, USA. She became a Diplomate of the American and European Surgical Colleges in 2000, has been an examiner for the RCVS and the European Surgery College, and is currently a member of the RCVS Surgery Board. Following five years running the Soft Tissue Surgery Unit at the Animal Health Trust, Prue has worked in private referral practice since 2005. She has a particular interest and expertise in Surgical Oncology, but enjoys all aspects of soft tissue surgery and is always happy to discuss problem cases or potential referrals.
Internal Medicine

Ian Hopkins BSc, BVSc, CertSAM, MRCVS Ian graduated from Liverpool in 1993 and joined Willows Veterinary Group in 1999 becoming a small animal partner in 2006.He gained his certificate in 2003 in small animal medicine and since this date Ian has run the medicine referrals at Oakwood.Ian has a particular interest in non invasive diagnostic techniques. He is proficient in flexible endoscopy of the respiratory tract including rhinoscopy, gastrointestinal endoscopy including gastric, duodenal, ileal and colonic biopsy techniques and endoscopic foreign body retrieval from the respiratory tract and gastric areas.He is also adept at abdominal ultrasonography and regularly performs ultrasound guided biopsies.
Cardiology

Mike Holgate BVetMed, CertVC, MRCVS qualified from London in 1983 and after working in a number of mixed practices in Yorkshire, Lancashire and the Isle of Wight, became a small animal partner in Cheshire. He left mixed/general practice in 2000 to concentrate on cardiology gaining his certificate in 2002. Since then he has worked in referral and his own peripatetic cardio-respiratory practice covering Lancashire, Cheshire and Staffordshire. Mike's interests are particularly echocardiography and cardiac arrhythmias
Dermatology

Claire McArdle BVSc, CertVD, MRCVS Claire qualified from Liverpool University in 1991 and gained her Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology in 2001 while working in companion practice in Cheshire. She joined Oakwood in 2005 after working as a lecturer in the Dermatology Referral Clinic at Liverpool University.
Ophthalmology
                  
         
Rachel Lochart BVM&S, CertVOpthal, MRCVS Rachel qualified from Edinburgh University in 2001 and worked in first opinion small animal practice where she developed an early interest in Ophthalmology. She gained the RCVS Certificate in Ophthalmology in 2009 and has worked as a dedicated veterinary Ophthalmologist ever since. She enjoys all aspects of her work but has a particular interest in corneal surgery and neurophthalmology.
Lorna Newman BVM&S, CertVOphthal, MRCVSLorna qualified from Edinburgh University and worked in small animal practices in London before training in ophthamology at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket and gained the Certificate in Ophthamology in 1992 and is currently enrolled to sit the British Diploma. She has worked in dedicated ophthamology referral practices since 1993 and has significant experience in diagnoses, treatment and surgery. A member of the BVA's Eye Panel for more than 15 years, Lorna has carried out eye testing at many dog shows and abroad.
