    Charlie Sale

    RCVS & EBVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Surgery

    Charlie is an RCVS and EBVS specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Charlie has over 20 years of experience in orthopaedic and spinal referrals. Graduated from Glasgow in 1991 and then worked in a small animal practice in Bolton for four years where he developed an interest in small animal orthopaedics. In 1995 he moved to the Willows Veterinary Hospital, part of the Willows Veterinary Group, and set up an internal orthopaedic and spinal referral service. In 1997 he attained the RCVS certificate in small animal orthopaedics and began accepting external referrals. Charlie’s services came under the Oakwood umbrella after Oakwood started in 1999. Charlie became a diplomate of the European College of veterinary Surgeons in 2007. He has published articles on spinal conditions in the dog and is interested in all aspects of orthopaedic and spinal disease.

    Charlie is a regular speaker at Oakwood’s twice yearly CPD days and lectured at Vets North conference in 2015 & 2018

    Outside work Charlie enjoys Golf, running (finishing the London Marathon in 2018), with the support of friends and colleagues has managed to raise £5000 for hearing dogs for deaf people, a charity he feels a strong affinity to. Charlie is also a passionate but long suffering fan of the Miami Dolphins!

    Tammy Gillian

    Soft Tissue Surgery

    Tammy is an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in small animal surgery with over 15 years’ experience in referral practice.

    Tammy graduated from Murdoch University in Western Australia in 1997, before starting her veterinary career as a small animal veterinarian in Suffolk, England. In 2004 she became a member of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists Small Animal Surgery Chapter, and since then has worked primarily as a consultant in small animal surgery at various referral centres across the UK. As well as general soft tissue surgery Tammy has an interest in oncology, chemotherapy, and reconstructive surgery. She also performs laparoscopic surgery, stent placements, endoscopy, and acupuncture.

    Eandil Maddock

    RCVS listed Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery

    Eandil is an RCVS listed Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Surgery. Eandil has over 15 years’ experience of managing orthopaedic and spinal referral cases. He graduated from Edinburgh in 1994, taking up a position in a mixed practice in the south of England. A developing interest in surgery took him to the PDSA where he studied for and obtained the Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2002. Following a further 4 years in a senior position in a small animal practice Eandil became the first Orthopaedic Resident at a North West Referral Centre. Eandil joined Oakwood in 2018 in the role of a Clinician in Orthopaedic Surgery and holds the RCVS Advanced Practitioner status.

    Ian Hopkins

    Internal Medicine

    BSc, BVSc, CertSAM, MRCVS

    Ian is an RCVS listed Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine. He graduated from Liverpool in 1993 and joined Willows Veterinary Group in 1999 becoming a small animal partner in 2006. He gained his RCVS certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2003 and began accepting medicine referrals at Oakwood. Ian has a particular interest in non-invasive diagnostic techniques. He is proficient in flexible endoscopy of the respiratory tract including rhinoscopy, gastrointestinal endoscopy including gastric, duodenal, ileal and colonic biopsy techniques and endoscopic foreign body retrieval from the respiratory tract and gastric areas. He is also adept at abdominal ultrasonography and regularly performs ultrasound guided biopsies.

    Alenka Hrovat

    EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine & RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine

    DVM PhD DipECVIM-CA MRCVS

    Alenka graduated and completed her PhD at the Veterinary Faculty in Ljubljana. Upon completion of her PhD she undertook internal medicine residency at Ghent University and was awarded her European Specialist Diploma in 2017 and RCVS Specialist status in 2018. 

    Alenka has worked at a number of referral hospitals across the UK (Langford Vets, Southfields Veterinary Specialists, North Downs Specialist Referrals and Pride Veterinary Centre) before becoming a peripatetic specialist in 2023 supporting practices across Midlands and greater Manchester, and now joining Oakwood Veterinary Referrals as a second internal medicine clinician. She held several CPDs on various topics in small animal internal medicine in the UK and Europe. She authored and co-authored several original papers in peer reviewed veterinary and biomedicine journals and textbooks and presented her work on European and US congresses. She is interested in all areas of small animal internal medicine.
